The Alter Start support model comes to Rwanda
In partnership with African Leaders Hub and several local NGOs, a programme built on skills-based volunteering.

We are just back from another field mission. This time it is real: the programme is starting, with strong local partners.
Together with African Leaders Hub, we built every detail of the programme alongside local actors on the ground: the NGOs SACCA, Komera and URUMURI, the Stiftung BPN (Business Professionals Network), local businesses and local authorities — all working to make this Rwandan programme a success.
Who do we support?
Women and young people in rural areas who already have the know-how.
🧵 Sewing. 🥖 Baking. 💇🏾♀️ Beauty. 🌱 Agribusiness.
The talent is there. The small businesses are already up and running. What is missing is what turns a skill into a stable income: finding customers, setting prices, lasting over time.
The cornerstone of the programme? Skills-based volunteering.
20 local entrepreneurs, CEOs and leaders have committed to giving 2 hours every 2 weeks for 9 months — not to do the work for them, but to pass on good habits, open doors and support each entrepreneur towards independence.
This is the model, proven in Switzerland, that we are replicating here:
- One-to-one mentoring
- Group training
- An intensive 3-day bootcamp
- Hands-on, local entrepreneurial support
What changes a life's direction is someone who believes in you — and gives their time to prove it.
That is what Alter Start in Rwanda is all about. 🌍
